TRAVEL INSPIRED PAINTINGS
Behind the painting…Morocco- Marrakech
Marrakech, the red city of Morocco has always been on my list of destinations to visit. I finally made the journey for my sister’s 30th last October and what an inspirational, magical place it is. A city of exotic colours magenta, ultramarine blue, yellow, gold and silver streaming through the Medina markets creating a visual symphony. The minimalistic designs of the Riads and the colour of burnt sienna flowing through the city whilst the calming smells of rose water and fresh mint tea merge together to relax and soothe. This journey through colour continues with the mesmerising geometric and detailed patterns on the walls and tiles of the Bahia Palace and Jardian Majorelle. Finally the refreshing waterfalls of the Atlas Mountains cooling with citrus tones and not forgetting the sweet and fragrant tastes of the Tagines, all inspired this painting. Share with me the excitement and wonder I encountered around every corner of Marrakech.
An insight behind…
‘Paradise’ Colours of Greece
During my trips to the Cyclades Islands of Greece I have always been inspired by the light and space and the pure organic colours of the Mediterranean. These challenging times of lockdown have given me time to reflect and dream I am by the crystal clear sea drinking a rich, bitter greek coffee, back in ‘paradise.’ I have spent time looking back at the photographs captured on my travels to Paros, Santorini and Naxos, the inspiration behind this painting. The turquoise sea, the yellow and gold sunsets, the lush vegetation, the ancient designs of the red ochre doors flowing through to the hidden cobbled streets of the villages, the sky blue and white washed houses and even the tastes and freshness of the Greek cuisine, have all played their part in this work of art. Creating the balance, peace and harmony I feel when I step in to Greece. This lockdown has allowed the planet to refresh, reset and be alive again and I hope through this painting it takes you to ‘paradise’ too.
